ALTE is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), based in England, registered charity number 1184799. It has a constitution and a number of other governing documents. ALTE transitioned from its previous legal status, an EEIG (European Economic Interest Grouping) to a CIO in 2019.

The charity is managed by the following groups:

Board of Trustees   The elected Trustees, including the Secretary-General, have legal responsibility for ALTE. 

Standing Committee  The elected members of the Standing Committee oversee the Quality Management System.

Secretariat  The staff in the ALTE Secretariat and ALTE Services Unit oversee the day-to-day running of ALTE. 

Våra Full Members  Each full member organisation has an official representative and an voting representative.
